In its responses to Covid 19, the Federal government has released a range of incentives to help businesses take on Apprentices & Trainees to build a pipeline of skilled workers to support sustained economic recovery.
In return, workers are retrained, upskilled and have the opportunity to gain a qualification while learning on-the-job skills.
What kind of roles are we talking about?
I bet you thought Apprenticeships were in the Trades space – traditional 4 year courses for young people out of school, learning to weld, fabricate, build and service mechanical parts wearing Hi-Vis workwear. … Am I right?
Today in 2021, the Apprentice position has changed. It now extends to Trainees in Professional Service industries like Real Estate, Office Administration, Recruitment, and Care services. Anything type of industry sector really.
How can I take part?
The incentive that we think works best for our clients is the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencement scheme, providing 100,000 new trainee and apprentice positions for workers across all industries – from those traditional apprentices in the trades space, right through to assisting small businesses qualify and upskill a transitional worker from a COvid 19 suffering industry into a new career through Business Administration, Property, Disability services, Education support and many other areas.
It has seen employers able to access a subsidy of up to $7000 per quarter, per new trainee – an amazing amount of support for those business hesitant to engage people from other industries or waiting to see the outcome of COVID-19 restrictions.
When do I need to decide?
There are limited spaces – news reports from Ministers in the Government recently indicate many of these positions have been filled – so there is limited time to get your applications in to train and upskill a new candidate in your business, while accessing this outstanding support.
